Equipment and technology for slag removal from scrap material of metallurgical wastes

An operating principle of electrohydropulse plants for waste cleaning against slag is grounded on use of high-voltage discharges in a liquid produced between an electrode and scrap material and accompanied by a complex of physical phenomena, the so-called electrohydraulic effect being an electric explosion in a liquid (almost instant energy generation in the set point), thus resulting in crushing and removal from a surface and from scrap internal hollows of undesirable residues and slag.

Conducted experimental work showed us high efficiency of this technology for slag removal from scrap material of metallurgical wastes at low power consumption (less than 10 kW/t).

Multiple-purpose electrohydraulic plants can be used for slag removal from scrap material.

Electrohydropulse technology of foreign residues removal are as follows:

  • Sharp increase in labor productivity (in 2-4 times) and the quality of residue removal;
  • Possibility of undesirable material removal from the parts of any complexity and various materials;
  • Radical improvement of sanitary-and-hygienic working conditions;
  • Liquidation of manual labor and sharp decrease in occupational diseases;
  • Economy of production areas and environmental problems solving.

The priority of electrohydropulse method use is ascribed to Ukraine.

Universal plant operation is carried out as follows.

Slag is removed from scrap material in a following way: the scrap material is loaded by workshop load-lifting tools into the container being in a loading position. The container moves to a plant operating hall on a raising platform and the container with scrap material sinks in the technological bath filled with water. The working electrode is supplied to scrap material and fixed in the set point of treatment, the high-voltage electric equipment switches on, thus starting the treatment.

Processes of electric power accumulation, maintenance of a working interval "electrode-part", slurry origination and slag removal outwards the technological bath are carried out automatically. Upon termination of treatment working electrodes are taken away outwards the bath, the container is hoisted and transported to the unloading position, and on the other side of the plant a new container with untreated scrap material goes for treatment. The cycle repeats.

The plants operate in manual and semi-automatic modes and they are controlled by a remote control panel.

The specialists from the Science and Technology Center "VEGA" develop the electrohydraulic equipment, render their assistance to the Clients in mounting, adjustment and commissioning of EH plants, consult on the issues concerning the technology of electrohydraulic treatment of casts taking into account their specific features and range, train the service personnel, perform warranty and post-warranty service of the equipment. For specific orders STC "VEGA" at IPPT can develop a special design project of EHP to satisfy the Client’s local conditions.
